Around the Blogosphere Today

I'm in the midst of a big work project which hasn't left much time for blogging, but here's a rundown on some varied articles which caught my eye today, for your reading pleasure:

Kathleen Parker asks: "Can Fred Thompson Fill GOP's Vacuum?" (See subject link.)

Real Bad Week for Katie Couric: It couldn't happen to a nicer network.

Edwards Discusses Hedge Fund Job: John Edwards, with a growing reputation as a hypocrite, says he invested and made money in a hedge fund in order to learn more about poverty.

All Profile, No Courage: Power Line's Paul Mirengoff on the hypocrisy of Edwards supporting "rental vouchers" but not school vouchers.

The Political Tornado in Greensburg: You'd think by now female Democratic governors would be embarrassed to be whining about the "Big Daddy" federal government supposedly not taking care of their states in a crisis. Are these governors competent executives, or not? Fortunately the White House and Senator Brownback acted quickly to bat down Governor Sebelius's claim that the Iraq war led to a lack of resources (i.e., the National Guard) to deal with the tornado tragedy.

Obama Overstates Tornado Deaths: Ummm, that's the understatement of the year. Can you imagine the derision if a Republican made this gaffe? Unfortunately Obama has picked up on the falsehood that there was inadequate help from the National Guard due to the Iraq War.

Feinstein Conflict Allegations "Aren't Going Away," Watchdogs Say: We can only hope.

Bill May Be "Conflict of Interest" For Pelosi: The "most ethical Congress in history" marches on.

NCIS Creator Is Leaving His Show: Finally, some Hollywood gossip about one of the few primetime shows in which I take an interest. Word has it that Mark Harmon was fed up with a "chaotic" set and 16-hour days. As this is a successful show that can stand up to AMERICAN IDOL, it seems that CBS decided to keep its star happy and worked out a deal for Donald Bellisario to leave the show. Hopefully Harmon can now have a life off the set and the series will retain its quality.

Enjoy!

I can't believe The Powers That Be kept Harmon over Bellisario. I'm not into NCIS but I loved JAG and Bellisario's other shows, too. Harmon sure sounds like a real something. I've never cared for him. I think it's because I saw "The Deliberate Stranger" when it came out (I was 10) and I still see him as Ted Bundy. Ick!

NCIS would not be NCIS without Mark Harmon. I'm kind of surprised to see Bellisario leave the show though, especially after he kind of abandoned JAG during season 10 to focus on NCIS. Bellisario does have a history of some conflict with his leading cast members, but he is perhaps one of the best show creator and producers around. Some of my all time favorite shows have been his. NCIS is certainly one of his best. And it is one of a handful of shows that I actually watch on television.
That being said it would take a lot for a show to replace NCIS as my favorite must see show. I think The Unit has about done that. CBS has a two hour powerhouse as far as I am concerned. And if last night's season finale of The Unit is any indication, it will be that way for a while. I can't remember the last time I watched a season finale where I really felt like I couldn't wait til the next season to see what happens next. OK- maybe I remember. I think it was when Kate was shot on NCIS at the end of season 2- a total shocker.
