Around the Blogosphere Today

Here are some random reads from various blogs and news sites for your reading pleasure...

"Elizabeth Edwards 'Pushed' Hiring Hateful Bloggers" (subject link): Like so many liberals, Mrs. Edwards seems to have one standard for herself and one for conservatives.

For Airstreamers, It's One Big 'Silver' Family: Fun peek at a slice of Americana. The article calls to mind, one of my favorite books in recent years has been TRAVEL TRAILER by Phil Noyes -- wonderful graphics.

You Can't Say That: Thought-provoking piece by Jonah Goldberg, who writes "Nowhere else is the desire to control your border considered an act of bigotry."

Fourscore and Seven Manatees Ago: An article on the increasing trend toward naming schools for "names of natural features" rather than Presidents and other leaders. In our area we have one school named for a Southern California native, General George S. Patton -- I doubt someone so politically incorrect would have a school named for him today! -- while most of the other schools are boringly named for former school board members.

Antonio Admits Affair With Mirthala: Los Angeles Soap Opera: First the scandals involving L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo broke. Now it transpires that recently separated L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has been two-timing his wife for a long period of time. L.A. Observed has lots of posts and links. (Villaraigosa recently spent time in New York with Bill Clinton, another man who doesn't know much about fidelity.) I didn't know until recently that Villaraigosa's birth name was Villar; he merged it with his wife's name, Raigosa. With his divorce, will he become Mayor Villar?

Q&A With Vin Scully: A better Los Angeles story -- Dodgers announcer Vin Scully is eternally a class act. More here.

Happy Independence Day!
