TCM Remembers 2008

This year's edition of TCM Remembers, paying tribute to filmmakers who have passed away this year, is available on YouTube.

Moira Finnie has the link at her site -- click the title of this post.

The shots of Cyd Charisse, Charlton Heston, and Richard Widmark continue to cause a bit of a lump in my throat...I especially admired all three of them.

It would be nice if they could find a way to edit in Van Johnson...

Previously: TCM Remembers 2007.

Update: Van Johnson has been added to the tribute.

Laura, thanks for mentioning this moving tribute.

A friend has posted elsewhere that he believes that Van Johnson's image is among the many in this spot as of today, (12/13) between Michael Pate and Isaac Hayes. I have yet to see this on a broadcast. The holiday frenzy is mounting here in my little burg and I've fallen drastically behind in my actual tube watching. ;-(

In any case, I really hope that TCM will be able to devote a block of programming to Nina Foch and Mr. Johnson soon too.
Take care,
moira

Thanks so much for that updated news, Moira, I hope to see (and record) the on-air version soon.

Like you, not much time for viewing recently! :)

I'd love to see tributes to both Johnson and Foch soon --

Best wishes,
Laura

According to posts at the TCM Forum, the song is "God Only Knows" by Joe Henry.

It's a rather quiet New Year's Eve (so far) and I have just seen the tribute, this time from start to finish.

So beautiful (love the poignant, funereal tune). So hauntingly sad, and startling in moments too, to see the likes of Bernie Mac, Heath Ledger and Sydney Pollack included in this year's farewell.

Brilliant.

Happy New Year, Laura and All--

Happy New Year, Lorraine.

Fun to see a mention of Bake & Broil from someone in Illinois. I was born in L.B. and my grandparents used to eat there a lot.

Best wishes,
Laura
