Sherman Brothers To Be Honored at Disneyland
MousePlanet has the wonderful news that the Sherman Brothers will be honored with the dedication of a window on Disneyland's Main Street USA this week.
Richard and Robert Sherman wrote the superb score for Disney's MARY POPPINS (1964), including the Oscar-winning "Chim Chim Cher-ee." They also wrote the scores for THE PARENT TRAP (1961), THE JUNGLE BOOK (1967), and many other films. Their contributions to Disneyland and other Disney theme parks include "The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" at the Enchanted Tiki Room, "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" for the Carousel of Progress, and "It's a Small World."
As MousePlanet says, "Music from the Academy Award-winning pair can be heard in every Disney Resort around the world."
The stories behind Disney's tribute windows are described in an enjoyable little book, WINDOWS ON MAIN STREET by Chuck Snyder.
I'd love to see the recent documentary THE BOYS: THE SHERMAN BROTHERS' STORY (2009). According to the Ultimate Disney DVD release schedule, THE BOYS is expected to have a DVD release at some point, along with the documentaries WALT AND EL GRUPO (2009) and WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY (2009).
March 11th Update: Details on the ceremony are posted here.
March 18th Update: I've now posted my own photos of the Sherman Brothers' window.

A window?
Hi Tom,
Disney parks paint old-fashioned advertisements along the windows of Main Street honoring those who were significant in park history.
For one example at Disneyland Paris, scroll down in this post. The window honoring Walt and Roy Disney says: Two Brothers, Inc., Dreamers and Doers: "If we can Dream it, we can Do it!" Then gelow their names it says Founders and Partners.
While most windows are on Main Street, there are exceptions. Fess Parker has a window in Frontierland.
Here is more info about Disneyland windows, and this is about Disney World windows. Hope you enjoy this info about one of the unique features of Disney parks. :)
Best wishes,
Laura
Oops! "gelow"="below" in the above comment. :)

How interesting! I was at Disneyland last summer but I didn't notice any names in the window. Will have to pay more attention next time I visit!
I'm so excited about that. I absolutely adore the Sherman Brothers (I bought the Sherman Brothers Songbook cd and it's become one of my favorite cds ever). I'm glad they're finally getting a window - it's about time!
I really hope those documentaries come out on dvd soon. I'd love to see the Sherman Brothers one and I really want to see "Waking Sleeping Beauty." I haven't heard of "Walt and El Grupo." What's that one about?
Hi Sally,
This post has some info about WALT AND EL GRUPO, and also links to older posts with a little more info. The book on the same topic, SOUTH OF THE BORDER WITH DISNEY, is excellent.
My oldest daughter would have been able to see WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY at Leonard Maltin's USC film class last week, but she was at the airport picking up a friend she studied with in London last year! That was a bummer although she had a good time with her friend. :)
Best wishes,
Laura
