Around the Blogosphere This Week

Miscellaneous bits of news and fun stuff from around the Internet... This is a slightly abbreviated roundup due to our busy MouseAdventure weekend.

...New book: TWO GUYS NAMED JOE: MASTER ANIMATION STORYTELLERS JOE GRANT AND JOE RANFT by animation expert John Canemaker, author of THE ART AND FLAIR OF MARY BLAIR and many other titles. It will be released August 3rd.

...There are some interesting excerpts from a 1981 interview with Elizabeth Montgomery on YouTube here and here. The interviewer is apparently the late Ronald Haver, longtime curator of the film program at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Montgomery shares reminisces regarding her father, BEWITCHED, and more.

...Attention Hallmark Christmas Ornament Collectors: This year's Ornament Premiere Weekend will be July 10-11. Dreambook catalogues are now available in stores.

...Reviews, reviews and more reviews: Moira takes a detailed look at ROME ADVENTURE (1962), which I enjoyed last year...Glenn Erickson reviews Joel McCrea's WICHITA (1955)...Clydefro liked PENTHOUSE (1933), which I thoroughly enjoyed earlier this year...Toby reviewed John Payne's SILVER LODE (1954) at 50 Westerns From the 50s.

...POLDARK II will be coming to DVD October 26th. I'm happy at the prospect of finally owning the entire series on DVD -- not to mention that at long last I can discard my Beta (!) videotapes of the show.

...Nanny state alert: The Coming War on Bacon? Food for thought.

...Classic Movies Digest has some great publicity shots of movie star bathing beauties.

...Jacqueline analyzes symbolism and racial issues in GONE WITH THE WIND (1939) in an interesting essay at Another Old Movie Blog.

...Southern Californians may be interested to know that the historic Parasol restaurant building in Rossmoor/Seal Beach will soon have a new tenant. Mel's Drive-In (which I reviewed here) closed last year, and Panera Bread soon moves in.

Have a great week!

Thanks for the link.

Thanks also for the links to the Elizabeth Montgomery interviews. A terrific actress, and certainly an endearing personality. It's fun to listen to her impressions of the "Bewitched" years. I'd also love to hear more about her memories of her various made for TV movies.

You're very welcome, Jacqueline! And I'm so glad you found the Montgomery interviews interesting as well. I have loved BEWITCHED since I was very little. A few months ago I bought THE AWAKENING LAND, which she made for TV with Hal Holbrook and Jane Seymour, but I haven't watched it yet. So many movies, so little time...!

Best wishes,
Laura
