In Disney News...
Here's some of the interesting Disney news of the past few days...
...Preparations are in full swing for Disneyland's 55th anniversary on July 17, 2010. Beautiful special edition park maps (pictured at left) will be available in the days leading up to the anniversary. I hope to visit sometime next week.
...The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco has several programs planned this month celebrating Disneyland's 55th anniversary.
Also of note on the museum schedule is a tribute to Fess Parker scheduled for September 19, 2010, which will be attended by Parker's children.
...D23 has announced the schedule for Destination D: Disneyland '55, which will be held at the Disneyland Hotel on September 24 and 25, 2010.
Destination D events will include appearances by composer Richard Sherman and several Mouseketeers. Presentation topics include the 1964 World's Fair, Disneyland merchandise, Imagineers, Disneyland on television, "The Wonderful World of Vintage Disneyland - In Color!" and much more.
I have some "birthday money" saved up and am planning to attend!
...The L.A. Times ran a nice article this week with sketches of the plans to remake California Adventure's Mulholland Madness into Goofy's Sky School.
...Jim Fanning has been doing some terrific in-depth pieces on Disney films at the D23 website. Most recently I have enjoyed articles on JOHNNY TREMAIN (1957) and SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON (1960). With the recent passing of the voice of Cinderella, Ilene Woods, it's also a good time to take another look at Fanning's February article on CINDERELLA (1950).
...Al Lutz's latest report at MiceAge seems to indicate Disneyland has heard the complaints regarding this year's plans to restrict their Halloween fireworks spectacular to those who pay extra to attend Mickey's Halloween Party: "The plan now is to allow anyone inside Disneyland at the time the party begins to remain inside the park to see the fireworks, shop and eat." Ticketed party-goers will have wristbands allowing them to participate in the exclusive party activities.

Something else that is going on July 17 is 55 Years of Music Magic sponsored by the Disneyland Alumni Club but anyone can attend. I sprang for the cost of this event :) In the Disneyland Hotel Grand Ballroom with dinner, musical performances (especially looking forward to Rod Miller of piano Coke Corner fame) and hosted by a couple of original Mousekeeters. Here is a link you'll probably have to copy and paste:

Laura: I can't remember if you've visited the SF Walt Disney Family museum yet. Mr. UNG and I were there last week and it was really nice. Of course you can't beat the location and the window on the backside of the building has an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We began our tour at 10 AM and were shocked to realize when we were done that we'd spent nearly 4 hours in it. Mrs. UNG
Irene, that sounds great, thanks for the link!
Mrs. UNG, haven't been to the museum yet but we are discussing trying to visit within the next year. I'm really delighted to hear you enjoyed it so much!
Best wishes,
Laura
