The Ten Commandments (1956) Coming to the Egyptian Theatre

Two weeks from tonight the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood will celebrate its 88th anniversary with a screening of Cecil B. DeMille's THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956).

The movie has an all-star cast including Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Anne Baxter, Edward G. Robinson, Yvonne DeCarlo, Vincent Price, Nina Foch, Debra Paget, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Martha Scott, Dame Judith Anderson, and John Carradine.

The screening will be the Los Angeles premiere of a digital restoration of the "roadshow" version of the film.

The Egyptian will also be hosting an exhibition of costumes and jewelry used in the film.

Incidentally, the great Charlton Heston was born 87 years ago on this date -- October 4, 1923.

Previous Egyptian Theatre posts: Tonight's Movie: Cleopatra (1934) at the Egyptian Theatre; A Visit to the Noir City Film Festival.

October 13th Update: From the Los Angeles Times, Susan King writes about "An Epic Restoration Effort."

Update: It's been announced that Charlton Heston's widow, Lydia, will be making a personal appearance at the screening.

Update: Here's my description of the evening and review of the film.
