Off to the 2019 D23 Expo!
Friday I'm off to a wonderful, Disney-filled three days at the 2019 D23 Expo!
The Expo takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center from Friday, August 23rd, through Sunday, the 25th.
This is Disney's sixth D23 Expo, and I've attended all of them. I'll be at the Anaheim Convention Center for the entire Expo.
I'll be posting photos from the Expo all weekend on Twitter so please follow along in real time!
As always, I'll also be sharing some of my Expo experiences and photos here after the weekend is over.
Some of the highlights on this year's schedule:
*Disney On Broadway in Concert: A 25th Anniversary Celebration. The Broadway and Beyond concert we saw at the Expo in 2013 was fantastic.
*The Musical Journey of Disney's Aladdin
*The hardest choice is on Sunday: A 30th Anniversary celebration of THE LITTLE MERMAID (1989) with Jodi Benson or the big Disney Parks presentation? I've been fortunate to see Jodi in person in the past so I plan on attending the Parks presentation, which is always interesting and sometimes leads to amazing additional experiences, such as when we were awarded passes to a sneak preview for the return of Disneyland's Fantasmic! in 2017.
*My favorite presentations are usually at the Archives Stage, where the focus is on Disney and Disneyland history. Archives topics include:
"In Search of the Swiss Family Treehouse"
"At Work With Walt: James Algar's 43 Years With Bambi, Lions, and Mr. Lincoln"
"Secrets of Walt Disney's Fun and Fancy Free" with preeminent Disney historian J.B. Kaufman, author of a new book on that movie
"Making Holiday Magic at Disney Parks"
"Travels With Marty: A Conversation with the Sklars and Imagineers," celebrating Imagineer Marty Sklar, who passed away a few days after the 2017 Expo
"50 Years of the Walt Disney Archives: A Gold Mine of Fun Finds"
"Disneyland '59: Matterhorn, the Monorail, and the Submarine Voyage"
Can't wait for what promises to be another amazing Expo!
I have a post prescheduled for Saturday, so check back for new content while I'm away.
It's going to be a busy couple of weekends, with the Expo followed by Cinecon from August 29th to September 2nd!

According to the following report in the Los Angeles Times today, visiting 2019 D23 Expo should be a lot of fun:
"At this weekend’s Disney fan convention, the D23 Expo in Anaheim, you can make like Tony Stark and wave your hands like wands in front of a digital wall to trigger an interactive display. Place your hands about an inch or two from the screen — don’t touch it — and with the flick of a wrist, zoom, twist or rotate an image of, say, a superhero suit or spaceship. If you want, make it spin as if it were a ballerina. It’s an effort to mimic the holographic-like display used by Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man in the Marvel films."
We got to try that out, and it was quite fun to be an Avenger, if only for a few seconds. :)
I'll look for that article, was so busy at the convention I didn't get to read it! Thanks.
Best wishes,
Laura
