A Sad Farewell to Caftan Woman
Tremendously sad news to share today: Caftan Woman, a dear friend and supporter of all who love and write about classic movies, has passed away.
The news that she died today was shared by her sister on Twitter.
Patricia, aka Paddy Lee, was an upbeat, optimistic soul despite a longstanding battle with kidney disease. It was such a thrill when she received a kidney transplant!
She had been off Twitter since sharing she was having new health issues on February 4th.
In addition to her wonderful site, Caftan Woman, Paddy was a prodigious blog reader who invariably took the time to leave kind and supportive comments. I always loved hearing from her, especially as our tastes were very similar, including a love for Westerns; if Paddy recommended a film I knew I'd like it!
Her last blog post, on one of my favorite MAVERICK episodes, posted a few days ago, on March 2nd; I linked to it in last weekend's Around the Blogosphere link roundup.
This news cuts all the more deeply after learning of the death of Moira Finnie, aka Gina Neylon, a few weeks ago.
Paddy's friendship enriched my life and that of my readers for many, many years. I had hoped that one day we would meet in person, but it was not to be.
This is a huge loss for us all. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to her family and all who loved her.
Rest in peace, dear friend.

Oh no! I'm very sorry to hear that. I do hope her site will stay up, it's a great "reference library".
Lovely remembrance, Laura. I will miss her.
The heartbroken response to her loss by her fellow bloggers is a testament to how truly special she was. This hits hard.
She should have done well. The odds are all in favor of long-range success, but bad luck can intervene. A real shame.
Oh no, this is such sad news! I loved reading her blog and receiving/reading her comments. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. She was someone I wished I could get together with in person, she always was uplifting to "be around" online. Rest in Peace.
Thanks for that Laura. I am grateful that she is recognized by someone like you. Best to her family. RIP dear Paddy, originals always make the biggest mark.
This dear lady was always a warm presence with her many heartfelt comments on your blogsite, Laura, and we are going to miss her. Very sad news.

This is such sad news. I will miss her so very much. My condolences to her family. I only knew her through her wonderful blog CAFTAN WOMAN and I really enjoyed our talking, by way of the comments section. I know that she was a wonderfully talented human being.
PATRICIA NOLAN-HALL(PADDY LEE) R.I.P.
What a wonderful woman she was. She constantly commented on my blog, and she became more than a fellow blogger...she was a friend. RIP Paddy Lee! I'll miss you.
This was such sad news, what a delightful presence in the blog world, both as a talented enjoyable writer and as a welcome and insightful commenter, always loved interacting with her and will miss her a lot. Lovely post Laura, thanks for expressing what so many of us feel.
Thanks to each and every one of you for sharing your remembrances of a wonderful lady. I've felt quite broken up over it; it's very hard to believe we won't be hearing from her again.
I'll miss her "One for...TCM" and blogathon posts, her enthusiastic and invariably kind comments, our mutual love for things like BEND OF THE RIVER and MAVERICK, her Tweets commemorating movie star birthdays, her references to a film being a "dandy," and most of all, simply her. She was very special.
The world feels a little darker today, but as Jane says in the first comment, Paddy brought us a lot of joy, and it's that we'll ultimately remember.
Best wishes,
Laura
