Visits to Orange County Cemeteries (and More)
Last week we had a busy day "out and about" visiting several places here in Orange County.
Ruby Keeler's burial place is located just steps from the resting place of Carl Karcher, who founded the Carls Jr. hamburger chain in 1941.
This statue of St. Francis of Assisi, paid for by the Karchers' foundation, makes it easy for visitors to locate both the Karchers and the Lowes.
We also made a quick visit to El Toro Memorial Park in Lake Forest, where actor Gordon Jump is buried. He played Mr. Carlson on one of my all-time favorite TV comedies, WKRP IN CINCINNATI (1978-1982).
I was fortunate to meet him at the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival in the late '70s.
Mission San Juan Capistrano was founded the same year as our country, 1776. I've visited it a couple of times previously; we didn't have time to do more than pop into the gift shop last week, but I'm hoping to return for a longer visit soon.
We stopped for lunch at Heritage Barbecue, located right across the street from the mission.
It was highly recommended by a friend of my husband. We enjoyed both the food and the friendly service.
Here's a close-up of Heritage Barbecue's beef chili and a pulled pork sandwich:
The Regency Theatres on a side street near the mission caught my eye. It's a lovely building...
...and along with brand-new films, it was hosting a showing of GONE WITH THE WIND (1939)!
We ended our day with a visit at Disneyland to meet up with out-of-town relatives. For the first time ever, the floral display in front of the train station is Minnie Mouse rather than Mickey. The occasion was a celebration of Women's History Month.
