Not Cool

President-Elect Obama's nominee for Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner, failed to pay thousands of dollars in taxes over a period of several years.

If Geithner can't pay his taxes like the rest of us peons, I don't think he's the right man to be in charge of our country's fiscal policies.

And if the tax code is so complicated that someone with the help Geithner can obviously afford can't figure out what he owes within a few years' time, maybe Congress should be doing something about it...

I was thinking a spin on this could be someone who has issues with paying taxes would be in charge. Maybe some rationality could come with him? Of course, he might also become an evangelist for propriety but that seems less likely. Real understanding and awareness would be a wonderful component of such an officer!

I think if the nomination is to survive it's probably going to have to be presented in just this way...

Nice to hear from you, Anne!

Best wishes,
Laura
