TCM Announces 2022 Film Festival

There was a very nice surprise this morning when Turner Classic Movies announced dates for the 2022 TCM Classic Film Festival.

The festival returns to Hollywood April 21-24, 2022.

Typically future festivals have been announced by TCM in late August, so I was starting to think that 2022 would again be a virtual festival. How wonderful to hear the festival will be held in person, with a "Back to the Big Screen" theme!

Passes will go on sale in November. "Early Bird" prices are a match for the prices which had been announced for the 2020 festival: The Palace price is $349; Classic is $749; Essential is $999; and Spotlight is $2449. Descriptions of each pass level are at the TCM Festival website.

The dates for the Early Bird purchase window will be announced in the future.

After the Early Bird offer expires, prices will be Palace $399; Classic $849; Essential $1,099; and Spotlight $2549.

In terms of COVID, the festival will be subject to any federal, state, or local mandates in place at the time of the festival. TCM will release a plan close in time to the festival in response to current conditions. We can only hope that six and a half months from now things will be looking good!

Potential attendees will want to monitor the festival website and follow TCM on Twitter.

And, of course, I'll be providing regular festival updates here as announcements are made in the coming months. All updates will also be linked at the bottom of this post so that all festival information may easily be found in one place.

I was on the phone to my favorite Hollywood hotel making reservations within minutes of seeing the press release! I hope to see many of you in long, long last! 2022.

First thing I did when I received the email was to look to see what they said about COVID. Since literally everything seems to be on the table, and there's no chance I'm going pay that much money when there's a real possibility that I'll be required to wear a mask the whole time, I won't be attending next year. I guess that I'm just not as optimistic as you that things will be better in six months--especially in LA County.

I get that! I would also not be willing to wear a mask watching 16 or so movies in 72 hours. Would be miserably uncomfortable, and I want to see people’s faces! Etc. etc. We’ll see what happens with L.A. and in general. Hoping for the best 6-1/2 months on from now, but I’m a perennial optimist.

I’m currently in Lone Pine which is totally Not L.A. The blessed normalcy at the Lone Pine Fest including all the smiling faces is doing wonders for my spirits.

Hope things will work out for TCM Fest!

Best wishes,
