U.S. Reporting Civilian Border Patrol Activity to Mexico
It transpires that the United States Border Patrol has been giving Mexico intelligence regarding the location of U.S. citizen border patrols, including but not limited to the Minutemen group.
Michelle Malkin has all the details, above and here.
The Ontario, California Daily Bulletin in particular mentions a patrol on a private ranch. Friends of the Border Patrol had identified its activities to the Border Patrol for the group's own safety, but did not contact the media or otherwise publicize their patrols. They never dreamed the U.S. Border Patrol would turn around and disclose their activity to the Mexican government. The Mexican government, in turn, posted the patrol information on a Mexican government website.
Given the armed standoffs members of the Border Patrol have recently had with members of the Mexican military, giving Mexico a heads-up on the locations of the civilian border patrols seems like a particularly dangerous move by the U.S. government.
Just...wow.
"It's the borders, stupid" keeps running around in my mind.
Update: The latest from Michelle Malkin on this story.

It's disturbing that when it comes to illegal immigration, free trade with China (thereby ignoring their human rights record & building up their military with profits from us), and Islam (repeatedly refering to it as a "peaceful religion" despite its'historical advocacy of conversion by conquest), Bush seems to be playing politics rather than standing on principle.
Overall, I tend to agree. I do think a case can be made for free trade with China (as far as trying to open doors and exposure to democracy through trade), but it's iffy, and an issue of longstanding that's not particular to this president.
Particularly when it comes to immigration, I find it very difficult that a President I admire in so many ways seems so tone-deaf and isn't acting in ways I find logical. I understand he's trying to win friends with positive references to Islam, but at the same time it makes me uncomfortable given so much that's in the public record and history.
Thanks for stopping by! Best wishes, Laura
