Parking Tickets Are Just For the "Little People"...

...but not Senator Barack Obama, whose campaign just paid the fines for 15 parking tickets the senator accumulated in Massachusetts between 1988 and 1990.

17 to 19 years later, he finally decides to pay them because he's running for President?

Nice.

I understand that big-city parking can be difficult. But if I had 15 unpaid parking tickets for the better part of two decades, I don't think that would reflect well on me. And I don't think it's very flattering to Senator Obama.

Character is what you do when no one's looking.

You're right about what characater is, but it's possible he didn't know about the tickets. NYC and Boston are famous for not bothering to send notices to out-of-state licensees. However, if someone looked and found old ones . . . Then again, he could just be remiss. He does seem far preferable to Hillary, however.

Laura,
You are exactly right. I posted about this very issue yesterday. It is not the parking tickets, it is the fact that he didn't feel the need to pay them until two weeks before declaring his run for POTUS.

I am sure that upon graduation he received a bill from the University. I know of many universities that do not release your diploma until all outstading fees are paid. He obviously knew about them - that is the issue.

Thank you both for your notes!

Anne, appreciated your insight into a possible problem behind the tickets. I agree insofar as almost anyone is preferable to Hillary, LOL.

Proud Infidel, thanks for your thoughts, I have checked out your blog. :)

Best wishes, Laura

I'm from Illinois, and you've hit the nail on the head. I never thought there would be someone worse than Hillary, but I was wrong. If Obama had bothered spending some time in the Senate AT the Senate, and given himself a few years to show that he had indeed grown up, he would have likely been a far better candidate. As it is, the facts are too troubling. Even supporters should face the fact that Obama needs more experience before he's ready for prime time.

Oh, and the report is 17 (seventeen) parking tickets, not 15, and I don't think that includes the two in a nearby town.

Thanks for your comments, Publia.

One of the stories said he paid two of the 17 tickets back in 1990, so I omitted those from my recap.

It must be frustrating to live in Illinois but have someone not spending much time representing you! (I guess at least maybe at least that limits the damage he can do...)

Best wishes, Laura
