Illinois School District Cancels Holidays to Avoid Offending Muslims
Here in Southern California, as elsewhere across the country, "Easter break" and "Christmas break" disappeared long ago, replaced by "spring break" and "winter break."
Now political correctness is removing any celebration of certain holidays from some schools.
Last week I wrote about an Illinois school district that has banned pork products from the school menu to avoid offending Muslims. Jello-O, which had been banned under the edict because it contains pork products, was reinstated to the menu after a protest, but other foods continue to be banned.
The same district has cancelled Halloween and Christmas celebrations. The children will instead celebrate a "fall festival" and "winter festival."
As one parent said, "It's not fair to our kids. This is America and that's an American tradition."
Some Muslim parents are as amazed as other parents: "That does not represent all the Muslims, all of the Arabs at that school."
A meeting to discuss the changes will be held tonight.
Wednesday Update: Halloween and Christmas have been restored to the calendar of school celebrations, and Ramadan was added.

Didn't the non-pork eating Jewish community find the pork menu items offensive?
My thoughts exactly. How is it that our Jewish citizens have coped with differences in our dietary customs and beliefs without forcing the rest of America to change, but now we're being expected to all live under Sharia law, whether we want to or not?
Wow.
Best wishes,
Laura
