Disneyland Canoe Races

Here's a fun blog post from the Orange County Register about Disneyland's 45th Annual Canoe Races.

I participated in the race in 1980, and let me tell you, rowing competitively is harder than it looks!

Being on a team also required getting up way too early in order to practice and race at 6:00 a.m., often after working until late the night before, which is why I only competed one year (grin). Despite -- or because of -- the early hour, it was also quite magical, frantically paddling around Tom Sawyer Island while the rest of the park was quiet and still. It's something every Disney employee should do at least once.

A nice photo slideshow accompanies the article.

The paper also published the final results.
