Disneyland: Almost Summer, Part 2
Yesterday's visit to Disneyland was such a nice day, I couldn't share all the photos in one post!
Here's one more "flower shot" taken along Main Street:
The Casey Jr., a "1955 original," is a real favorite of mine.
It's got fabulous views of the whole Storybook Land Canal area...
...a cheerful soundtrack, and it's also a great way to cool off on a warm day.
We also enjoyed going on Pinocchio and comparing it to the Disneyland Paris version, and then took a relaxing cruise on the Mark Twain.
On the second deck we had the best of both worlds, shade and a nice cooling breeze. Here's a view of the dock as we pulled away:
The Rivers of America, shot from the Mark Twain:
We don't condone defacing Disney property, but we couldn't help being amused by what we saw someone had etched in the Twain's railing: "I love this place!" The sentiment certainly fit the beautiful day. (Now Disney maintenance will hopefully go buff it out...!)
The Sailing Ship Columbia pulls away from the dock as the Twain pulls in:
The Mark Twain and the Columbia are not only attractions, they are also part of the Fantasmic! show which has just reopened after being shut down for rehab. (Unfortunately, right now the dragon is broken...) Peter Pan's battle with Captain Hook's pirates on the Columbia is my favorite part of the show.
We enjoyed a relaxing dinner at the Plaza Inn:
Then it was on to the Tiki Room.
My daughter's friend had never been inside!
The Tiki Room -- especially its "rainstorm" -- is one of my earliest childhood memories.
Here's a shot of the Astro Orbitor's new paint scheme, to go with the cell phone photo I recently posted:
Main Street Cinema in the late afternoon sun, with the red, white, and blue bunting ready for Independence Day:
This photo's for you, J.C.!

Awesome photo! Thanks for including it for me! Man, does that bring back memories...
Jealous that you guys still have the original Tiki Bird show. The "Under New Management" version in WDW is not near as good as the original. They should have left well enough alone! (Was there Sunday night!)
You're welcome, J.C.!
I completely agree, Ed. There are certain rides Florida does better, but the Tiki Room's sure not one of them. :)
Hope you had a great trip!
Best wishes,
Laura
Great shots, especially the movie marquee.
Thanks, Jacqueline. :)
Best wishes,
Laura
I'm sorry to hear they've redone the DW Tiki Room. It was one of my favorite things there although at first I didn't even want to go in.
Barb, I know a lot of people are hoping that they will one day restore the WDW Tiki Room to its original storyline! Usually I simply enjoy attraction differences from park to park, but in this particular case, I just don't know what the Imagineers were thinking. I felt that the show was... disrespectful, I think is the word, rather than being an affectionate tribute to Disney past (i.e., as was done so well by the film ENCHANTED). One visit was enough for us.
The Disneyland version was extensively rehabbed prior to the 50th anniversary; they did a really beautiful job sprucing it up.
Best wishes,
Laura
