Coming to DVD: Errol Flynn Adventures

Happy news for fans of classic films on DVD: Warner Home Video has announced that a TCM Spotlight Collection, Errol Flynn Adventures, will be released on August 4th.

The 5-film set focuses on Flynn's World War II films: DESPERATE JOURNEY (1942), NORTHERN PURSUIT (1943), EDGE OF DARKNESS (1943), UNCERTAIN GLORY (1944), and OBJECTIVE, BURMA! (1945). Only OBJECTIVE, BURMA! has been previously released on DVD.

Raoul Walsh directed all the films but EDGE OF DARKNESS, which was directed by Lewis Milestone.

Lou Lumenick and a discussion thread at DVD Talk have more details, including the news that OBJECTIVE BURMA has a brand-new commentary track by Rudy Behlmer, Jon Burlingame, and Frank Thompson. All five films will have the "Warner Night at the Movies" feature with an accompanying newsreel, trailers, and cartoon, which are listed at DVD Talk. I've seen most of the shorts in the set, and they are all excellent.

The inclusion of some extras is encouraging, given that Warner's recently announced Film Noir Classic Collection, Vol. 5 has virtually no extras.

This is the fourth volume of Errol Flynn movies to be released, following The Errol Flynn Signature Collection Volume I and Volume II, plus a box of Flynn's Westerns.

Glad I could share the good news. I saw a little bit of DESPERATE JOURNEY a few months ago and thought it looked really good.

Best wishes,
Laura
