Coming to DVD: Woman Obsessed (1959)

WOMAN OBSESSED, a 1959 drama starring Susan Hayward, is now available for pre-order from Screen Archives Entertainment. This DVD will be released on June 14, 2011.

WOMAN OBSESSED is part of the new Twilight Time series of limited edition DVDs. It's a widescreen release; extras include the trailer and an isolated musical track.

WOMAN OBSESSED also stars Stephen Boyd, Barbara Nichols, and Theodore Bikel. It was directed by Henry Hathaway.

I ordered one of the first Twilight Time releases, FATE IS THE HUNTER (1964), and was impressed with the presentation, which included a glossy illustrated eight-page booklet with notes by Julie Kirgo. I'll be interested in seeing more of this series of DVD releases.

Next up from "Twilight Time": "The Egyptian" a much sought-after release. Being released as a DVD AND also to blu-ray at the same time. I have the old laser-disc of this film (from about 20 years ago) and it looked stunning. I can only imagine what a blu-ray is going to look like.......AND sound like as the score was written by two of the titans of Hollywood: Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann. "The Egyptian" was CinemaScope's "anniversary" film (Aug., 1954) and Zanuck (who personally produced) pulled out all the stops. Unjustly maligned over the years, "The Egyptian" is really a good, thoughtful film on the beginnings of monotheism, and is Hollywood at the height of the "Biblical spectacle" cycle.

Thanks so much for sharing this info, Brad! I've never seen THE EGYPTIAN. Fascinating that Herrmann and Newman collaborated on the score. I really enjoy the lead actresses, Jean Simmons and Gene Tierney. I'll be watching for it and hope to share more info here in the future.

Best wishes,
Laura
