Happy 65th Birthday, Disneyland!

July 17th, 2020, marks the 65th birthday of the Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland.

Needless to say, it's the strangest Disneyland birthday in the park's history, especially as it was unable to reopen today as hoped.

Happily, despite the closure I still have some 65th Anniversary merchandise, thanks to my husband popping into the World of Disney store at the newly reopened Downtown Disney last weekend.

I'm so happy to have these special treasures from a place I miss more than I can say. Until we meet again...

Happy Birthday to the Happiest Place on Earth!

Previous Disneyland Birthday Posts: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015 (and more here), 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Yes - very strange. I think you know this story, but my Disney claim to fame is that in 1955 our parents took my brother and me to Disneyland on July 18, the day it opened to the public. It was a birthday present for my brother who turned 13 on the 18th and he was already nuts about Disney by then! I was 6 and do not have all that clear of a memory of that day unfortunately. He soaked up the Disneyland TV shows that aired on Sundays nights (I think it was) and learned all he could before the park even opened. But it was very hot and very crowded that day so we did not stay long. Instead our folks took us back in August when it was cooler (!) and not so crowded.

I really like that puzzle - that is something I've gotten into since this whole Covid thing started. I haven't been to Downtown Disney yet but I may have to go just to get one of those :)

Hi Irene!!

I remembered that story reading it now, but I'd forgotten over time so I'm very glad you reminded me and shared it with my readers. What a fun connection you have to Disney history!

It had been a while since I've done puzzles but I always enjoy them and they're really the perfect thing right now! I have another Disneyland puzzle in my game cupboard I had never gotten around to doing so that will be next in line LOL.

My husband was very impressed with how Downtown Disney was being run and said he felt safer there than at the grocery store. Temperature checks by people from Hoag Hospital as you enter...bag checkers are behind plexiglas...EVERYTHING in the entire area is marked off with signs on the ground, the planters, etc., for spacing...everyone was compliant wearing masks. There were some social media pictures of World of Disney being crowded after opening Thursday morning, but he said it was nothing like that when he was there Friday so it sounds like that was a temporary blip. Hope you can get the puzzle one way or another! :) :)

PS They currently have free parking in the Simba lot (which is the only lot you can use to access DTD right now). Probably makes sense as anyone going there right now is going to spend money anyway and they can't park there to avoid theme park parking LOL.

Best wishes,
Laura
