Happy Birthday, Disneyland!
One of the things I love about Disneyland is the way it honors its history each year by acknowledging the anniversary of its original opening on July 17, 1955.
Disneyland typically has Cast Members greeting guests on Main Street USA before park opening each day, but today there was a particularly big crowd waving and cheering. The early morning skies were gray, but the atmosphere was simply wonderful.
We headed for a mavelous breakfast on the patio at Carnation Cafe while watching arriving guests walk down Main Street.
We spent the morning enjoying the park, including photographing some favorite spots, such as the Partners statue in the center of the park:
The flowers at the Hub were gorgeous:
We also enjoyed checking out the Submarine lagoon, which is looking wonderful.
The ride reopens this week after a long closure, dating back before the March 2020 shutdown, and we watched the submarines circling around being tested. Here they're all lined up ready to go:
Hank the Octopus from FINDING DORY (2016) is a new addition to the lagoon:
Here's a panoramic shot I took:
It's so great to see characters like Alice in Wonderland interacting directly with children again!
At noon there was a birthday ceremony which began with a short parade from Sleeping Beauty Castle to Town Square:
Not having been able to be there on the park's birthdays the last couple years, it felt especially joyous having thousands of happy people coming together to celebrate today.
Happy Birthday, Disneyland!
