Patrick Swayze Dies at 57

Sad news tonight that Patrick Swayze has lost a valiant struggle against pancreatic cancer. He was 57 years old.

Although Swayze will forever be known for his roles in DIRTY DANCING (1987) and GHOST (1990), my favorite Swayze role was Orry Main in the miniseries NORTH AND SOUTH, BOOKS I AND II (1985-86). It was a wonderfully entertaining show which -- along with an appealing cast of young actors -- featured a number of notables from classic Hollywood, including Robert Mitchum, Jean Simmons, Gene Kelly, and Elizabeth Taylor. Mr. Swayze is survived by Lisa Niemi, his wife of 34 years.
