Quick Preview of TCM in May

Turner Classic Movies has now posted the online schedule for May 2014!

The May Star of the Month is June Allyson, a great favorite in our household. I paid tribute to Allyson on her birthdate in 2012.

Close to 30 June Allyson films will be shown on Wednesday evenings in May, including favorites such as TWO GIRLS AND A SAILOR (1944), GOOD NEWS (1947), and THE GLENN MILLER STORY (1954).

May will also feature tributes to Jeanette MacDonald, Bing Crosby, Stuart Erwin, Katharine Hepburn, Mitzi Gaynor, Jane Wyatt, David Niven, Jean Arthur, John Payne, and Merle Oberon.

One of the fun themes for the month is a day featuring nine films with "Scarlet" in the title, including SCARLET DAWN (1932) and THE SCARLET COAT (1955).

Given how much I've enjoyed Rod Cameron and George Montgomery Westerns of late, I'm especially looking forward to Cameron in THE PLUNDERERS (1948) and Montgomery in KING OF THE WILD STALLIONS (1959). (Update: THE PLUNDERERS has been pulled from the schedule.)

The Friday Night Spotlight theme for the month is Australian films. As is the custom for TCM, Memorial Day Weekend will be devoted to war films.

I'll be sharing more detailed information about the May schedule at the end of April.

In the meantime, Mary Astor is the March Star of the Month, and John Wayne will be featured during TCM's 20th Anniversary celebration in April.

Update: For much more detailed information on TCM in May, please visit TCM in May: Highlights and TCM Star of the Month: June Allyson.

I think you should enjoy both "The Plunderers" with Rod Cameron and "King Of The Wild Stallions" with George Montgomery, Laura.
They are both in colour. I watched KOTWS only recently and enjoyed some beautiful location scenery shot around the Vazquez Rocks area. PLUS...get a load of George's great hat again!!
