TCM Remembers 2022

The annual TCM Remembers tribute video has just been released by Turner Classic Movies.

I especially loved seeing wonderful performers such as Sharyn Moffett, Mickey Kuhn, Virginia Patton, Jimmy Lydon, and Dwayne Hickman featured in this remembrance -- names you would never see in an Academy Awards memorial reel despite the fact they all contributed richly to our classic film heritage.

My thanks to TCM for doing such a lovely, thorough job memorializing filmmakers whose work has given us all great joy.

The video is available on YouTube.

Past TCM tribute posts: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Quite right, Laura. These are the people whose names and faces we should be seeing.

TCM's is always better than the Academy's.

A wonderful, poignant roundup--as usual. Do you happen to know what music served as soundtrack?

Looks like they've uploaded a new version earlier this evening and removed the one you linked here. Not sure what if anything was changed.

Thank you, Seth! That would explain why the TCM account Tweeted a new link tonight. I've now updated the post with the correct links.

And thanks to everyone else for sharing your thoughts on the video and for providing the information on the music. Appreciated!

Best wishes,
Laura

Thorough? Nope. Classy & iconic Betty White wasn't shown.

Betty White fell into a "zone," which has occasionally happened with others, where she passed away on New Year's Eve, 2021, but this is a memorial for actors who passed in 2022.

In the past TCM has occasionally gone back and edited into the memorial someone who passed away in late December, after the video was posted -- Joan Fontaine, who died December 15th, comes to mind as an example -- but I'm unaware whether that happened in White's case. Between her death date and the fact that, while she appeared in some films, she is best known for her TV work, I am certainly willing to give TCM some grace on this one.

Best wishes,
Laura

A note, TCM changed the embedding link a second time so this time I deleted the embedded video and just updated the YouTube link.

Best wishes,
Laura
