Disneyland: Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, Part 1
In my last couple of Disneyland posts, linked below, I shared photos of Disney's 100 Years of Wonder celebration at the park.
My next couple photo posts will focus on Disneyland's brand-new ride, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. A version of this ride, with a much different queue, opened at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida in 2020.
Above is the new attraction poster which is now in one of Disneyland's entrance tunnels.
For the first month or so after the ride opened in late January a Virtual Queue was used. We were in line as Group 96 as of 7:00 a.m. and rode at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Here are photos I took of models at last summer's D23 Expo; above is the ride entrance and below the remodeled Toon Town.
Initially only the new ride opened in January, with the rest of Toon Town scheduled to reopen later this month; that said, a new Toon Town store unexpectedly opened today, a few days early. MiceChat has photos.
The real ride entrance as we approached the building for our first ride. The El Capitoon Theater is a tribute to Disney's real-life movie theater in Hollywood, the El Capitan, where I have seen many Disney movies over the years.
A photo op backdrop near the beginning of the ride queue. PERFECT PICNIC is a make-believe Mickey and Minnie cartoon which guests watch at the beginning of the ride; soon thereafter, the cartoon "comes to life" unexpectedly.
The queue is long but quite entertaining, filled with inside jokes, make-believe movie posters starring Disney cartoon characters, and "props" from actual Disney cartoons. Click on any photo to enlarge it for a closer look.
I especially liked the posters for THE SCROOGIEST MILLIONAIRE...
...THE MOUSEKETEER...
...and THE CHIPMUNK TRAP:
Here's a poster for one of my favorite real Disney cartoons, PLUTO'S CHRISTMAS TREE (1952). "Props" from the movie are visible to the right.
A cake "prop" from MICKEY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY (1942):
A sign says this is a "100% authentic" prop from the first Mickey Mouse cartoon, STEAMBOAT WILLIE (1928):
I'll have a few more pictures to share from this new attraction in Part 2, including the building's beautiful Art Deco designs and the delightful "theater lobby."
