A Visit to Mt. Sinai Memorial Park

The week of the TCM Classic Film Festival we paid our first-ever visit to Mt. Sinai Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. Here are a few of the final resting places we visited that day.

The great big band singer Helen Forrest. This permanent grave marker was placed at her burial site in 2019 thanks to a fundraising effort.

Film and TV composer David Rose:

Phil Silvers, who I associate with favorite Gene Kelly musicals COVER GIRL (1944) and SUMMER STOCK (1950).

"West Coast Jazz" great Milton "Shorty" Rogers. Marc Myers very recently had a nice piece on him at JazzWax.

Saul Chaplin won an Oscar for scoring SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS (1954) and was associate producer of THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965), two of my very favorite movies. I met him once and thought he was a lovely person.

Disaster movie producer Irwin Allen:

Don Rickles, who for me will always be "Mr. Potatohead" from the TOY STORY movies:

Bob Saget of TV's FULL HOUSE, who passed away in January. I would anticipate a marker will most likely be placed on the first anniversary of his passing, in keeping with Jewish tradition.

Coming soon: A brief return visit to Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
